China BlueChemical Limited

China BlueChemical Limited (China BlueChem) is engaged in the development, production and sales of fertilizer and chemical products. It is one of the largest and most energy efficient nitrogen fertilizer and methanol producers in China. Currently China BlueChem owns two production bases, one in Hainan Province and the other in Inner Mongolia, and 5 large-scale production units. In September 2006, China BlueChem was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (Stock Code: 3983).

China BlueChem's production units and process technologies have reached world advanced level. Fudao large granular urea and Tianye small granular urea have been granted National Inspection-free Product status. Its sales network covers over 20 provinces and cities throughout the country, and also extends to America, Australia and Southeast Asia. Over the past few years, China BlueChem has implemented the soil testing and the fertilizer direct sale programs to help farmers reduce costs and increase their output in an effort to promote the development of China's modern agriculture. The company is the key methanol provider in South China and its Fudao methanol products have taken a leading role in the market.

To implement CNOOC's development strategy of its fertilizer segment, China BlueChem has accelerated the development of resources, including coal, phosphate and potassium, to form a business chain linked by nitrogen fertilizer, phosphate fertilizer and potassium fertilizer.

In 2009, China BlueChem produced 1.9 million tons of urea, 809,000 tons of methanol and 442,000 tons of phosphate fertilizer, exported 483,000 tons of urea, and imported 570,000 tons of potassium fertilizer and phosphate compound fertilizer. ChinaBlueChem made a breakthrough in resource acquisition by the purchase of Shanxi Hualu Coal Chemical Ltd. and share participation in the Shanxi Hualu Yangpoguan Coal Mine. This marked a stage progress in the urea bases development based upon the coal resources. The exploration and development ofphosphate mines in Guizhou Province carried out by the Guizhou Jinlin Company, as hare participation enterprise of China BlueChem, progessed smoothly. The800,000t/a methanol project and 60,000t/a POM project progressed steadily, and the direct fertilizer supply program and the soil testing program continued on schedule.

During the year, China BlueChem produced 2.01 million tonnes of urea, 867,000 tonnes of methanol, 455,000 tonnes of phosphate fertilizer, 774,000 tonnes of compound fertilizer and 1.402 million tonnes of phosphate core; seven production bases were set up in Hainan, Inner Mongolia, Hubei, Hebei, Shanxi, Guizhou and Heilongjiang; 800,000-ton ethanol project succeeded ahead in a lump sum commissioning for test run. It revamped and constructed high standard facilities with stringent requirements, and realized zero emission of pollutants in the industrial park, naturally becoming a beacon in the industry. It was awarded "Top 100 of 2010 China Agro-chemistry Service Enterprises".

2010 marked the tenth anniversary of China BlueChem. In the past decade, China BlueChem started as a new entrant of fertilizer and chemical industry, gradually grew up and became a large and leading enterprise within the industry. It has realized the transformation from a single feedstock, i.e. natural gas to multiple resources, including natural gas, raw coal and phosphate core, which was in line with the shift from mere urea production to integrated operation of research and development, production, distribution, trading and service. China BlueChem has outgrown the eastern Hainan Island to the national and overseas markets, leading the industry in terms of its scale and technology of facilities, assets quality, competitiveness and sustainability.
