AEGON-CNOOC Life Insurance Co. Ltd. is a 50/50 joint venture between CNOOC and AEGON that is headquartered in Shanghai. The company obtained its operating license from the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) and started life insurance business in China in May 2003. Its current registered capital is RMB 1.35 billion. So far, it has established branch offices in Beijing, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Tianjin and Hebei. It strives to provide professional, high quality and comprehensive services to all clients.

With strong support from its parent companies, and the Research & Development team composed of actuaries from home and abroad, the company has a diverse portfolio of life insurance products, both participating and non-participating, to meet different market needs. Since its establishment, AEGON-CNOOC Life Insurance Co. Ltd. has launched a series of products:

Following the emergence of SARS in 2003, the company acted immediately and launched a stand-alone SARS protection product.

In 2004, the company became the first company to launch a permanent medical protection insurance product (PHI).

CI (Critical Illness) was released in 2005 with integration in critical illness protection and endowment function comprehensively.

In January 2006, AEGON-CNOOC again became the first insurance company to introduce a HCB (Hospital Cancer Basic) product, which provides customers with the most comprehensive protection available.

PACE (Par Annually Coupon Endowment) was released in 2007 and becomes very popular with its features in regular return and long term in insured age (7 days~80 years old).

ROP-ADD (Return of Premium–Accidental Death and Disability) launched in 2008 combines the accident protection and full return together which provides overall protection for the customer.


The company provides a proactive customer service, which includes a 24-hour nationwide hotline, a special section for customer service on its official website and communication with customers via SMS and phone. Close and comprehensive communication not only helps the clients to have a clear understanding of the product they have purchased, but also develop their financial-planning consciousness. As well, it offers some value-adding service such as useful tips for health and periodic health education lectures.
