In July 2003, CNOOC donated RMB 10.86 million to the Soong Ching Ling Foundation to establish a stipend to help the financially disadvantaged college students continue their education and to arouse public attention to the problem. This project granted RMB 3,000 to each of the 800 selected students in 30 colleges from 2003 to 2007.

CNOOC donated another RMB 17.3 million in 2007 to the Foundation to help college students with financial difficulties. In the following five years, the Foundation will grant RMB 3,000 to each of the 1,175 selected students in 36 colleges each year.

By the end of 2009, the Company's contribution to the Foundation amounted to RMB 20.94 million. The China Youth Development Foundation honored CNOOC with the Hope Project 20 Years Contribution Award.

The project has been implemented smoothly adhering to the principle of being open, transparent and fair, which was well recognized and applauded by the colleges and beneficiaries. The project incorporated financial aid to encourage the development of healthy minds, sound character and the comprehensive quality of college students.

CNOOC and Soong Ching Ling Foundation were granted the "Best Partners Award" by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.


CNOOC Hope Schools

Joining the Hope Project, CNOOC has built 4 CNOOC Hope Schools since 1997, in Tongshanzi Village and Xiaotangtougou Village of Longhua County, Wafang Village of Ruanping County and Nanshuiyu Village of Mancheng County in Hebei Province. CNOOC has helped substantially improve the conditions in schools and has brought a good number of dropouts back to school. In addition, it established the Excellent Teacher Award and the Excellent Student Award to motivate teachers and students in schools.

Since 2004, 36 students of CNOOC Hope Schools have gained entrance to universities and 28 students to training colleges.
