It is a consistent pursuit of CNOOC to progress from a multinational operation company into a multinational responsible body. While establishing its presence in overseas areas, CNOOC is extending its corporate citizenship to operating areas.

In 2005, natural disasters happened frequently worldwide with increasing devastation, many of which led to serious casualties and loss of property. CNOOC and its affiliates donated nearly RMB 3 million to the countries affected by the tsunami at the beginning of the year. In September, 2005, CNOOC and all its employees donated RMB 1.6 million to the relief work in Louisiana which had been hit by Hurricane Katrina.

In February 2006, a mudslide occurred in Southern Philippines, resulting in mass casualty and loss of property. CNOOC Limited took quick action and donated USD 50,000 to the Red Cross of the Philippines. Together with USD 300,000 donated by other energy companies, a new village was built at a location 15 miles away from where the disaster happened.

In April 2008, CNOOC organized the "Fuwa-Love Deliver" activity in Kenya, Equatorial Guinea and Indonesia and made a donation of RMB 2.114 million, presenting Fuwas, school and sports things to local students. In August 2008, CNOOC presented uniforms to the Equatorial Guinea Olympic Delegation for competition events. The Company also drilled two wells in Kenya for the local people.

In May 2008, Myanmar was hit by a tropical storm which caused huge causalities and economic losses. CNOOC took quick action and contributed USD 100,000.
