Mr. Wang has a Ph.D in petroleum engineering from China University of Petroleum. He has over 30 years of working experience in China's oil and gas industry.
Mr. Wang became Deputy Director and Chief Exploration Geologist of Xinjiang Petroleum Administration Bureau in June 1996. He was appointed General Manager of Xinjiang Oilfield Company in September 1999. In July 2003, he was named Assistant President of CNPC and became Vice President in December 2003. From July 2004 to July 2007, he was also the Safety Director of CNPC.
Since April 2011, Mr. Wang serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Party Leadership Group Secretary of CNOOC. In the same month, he was appointed Chairman and Non-executive Director of CNOOC Limited.
