Born in 1959, Mr. Yuan Guangyu received a Bachelor of Science degree in Drilling Engineering from China University of Petroleum (the former East China Petroleum Institute) and a Master's degree from Capital University of Economics and Business. He also graduated from CEO Class and the Executive Master of Business Administration Program of China Europe International Business and holds an MBA degree. Mr. Yuan joined CNOOC in 1982 and has nearly 30 years of experience in the petroleum industry. He served as Deputy General Manager of the CNOOC Bohai Drilling Company, Deputy General Manager and General Manager of the China Offshore Oil Northern Drilling Company, and Deputy General Manager of the Operational Department of CNOOC. From 2001 to 2002, he was Chairman and General Manager of China Oilfield Services Limited before the company was restructured as a limited liability entity, and later became the Vice Chairman, an Executive Director, Chief Executive Officer and President of China Oilfield Services Limited. In November 2006, Mr. Yuan was appointed as an Assistant President of CNOOC. Since March 2009, he has also served as an Executive Vice President of CNOOC Limited.
