"Binhai 242" on the way to Juhua Island.
Relief supplies are safely delivered to the island residents.
In January 2010, Bohai Bay suffers from the worst sea ice in 30 years and nearly half of the sea surface has been frozen. Juhua Island, the largest island in Liaodong Bay, was ice-isolated and more than 3,200 residents faced the shortage of daily necessities and emergency supplies. To carry out the relief work, Hududao City Government organized a trip to the island, and "Binhai 242" of China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL) was responsible for the delivery of the relief team and supplies.
At 5:30 on January 21, 5 tons of relief supplies was shipped on board, including rice, flour, cooking oil and mineral water. At 6:05, led by Mr. Sun Zhaolin, the Major of Huludao City, 51 relief team members went on board, who are mainly from Liaoning Provincial Maritime Safety Administration and medical workers. Usually a trip from Hudaodao port to Juhua Island takes 40 minutes; on this day it cost nearly 3 hours. At 8:40, "Binhai 242" arrived at the island and the relief supplies were delivered to the islanders.
