Deepwater Drilling Rig "Hai Yang Shi You 981" Commences Operation in the South China Sea
On May 9, the deepwater semi-submersible drilling rig "Hai Yang Shi You 981", the first of its kind designed and manufactured in China, drilled its first well in Liwan 6-1 district in the South China Sea.

The South China Sea is estimated to contain one third of China's total oil and gas resources.

"Hai Yang Shi You 981" has a length of 114 meters, a width of 89 meters and a height of 117 meters. With a maximum operating water depth of 3,000 meters and a maximum drilling depth of 10,000 meters, it serves multiple functions of exploration, well drilling, completion and workover in deepwater areas.

The rig has gone through a two-month trial run, during which it has exhibited highly effective operating performance that meets high safety standards.
