CNOOC started its aid to Nima County of Tibet Autonomous Region in 2002 and so far has dispatched 3 batches of officials to the county.
The objective of the first phase was to basically change the impoverished situation of Nima County. From 2002 to 2004, CNOOC invested RMB 60 million in the construction of major roads in the county and other projects including the installation of solar power generators in over 4,000 households. The company also organized the first round of training for local county-level officials in inland cities.
In the second phase, CNOOC placed priority on the farming and pasturing areas. From 2005 to 2007, CNOOC invested RMB 46 million, focusing on promotion of the development of the local economy. The living environment and quality of life for herdsmen have been greatly improved.
In 2008, CNOOC invested RMB 19.41 million on seven construction projects, training and stimulating programs for the reserve officials and technicians in Nima County of Tibet. By the end of October, the projects of Nima Cultural Center, a Broadcasting Center, a teaching building of Shenya Primary School, Nima Hotel expansion, and a toilet for county middle school were completed on schedule, as well as the settlement project of 250 herdsmen families. In June 2008, Nima Medical Education Fund was put into operation providing training and assistance to medical personnel, teachers and students. In October, under the arrangement of CNOOC, 25 Nima officials received training in inland cities.
With the support from Nima County Government, CNOOC and sent 3 patches of officials, together with 3 project teams to be responsible for all project construction. After 7 years of construction, Nima County has been transformed into a prosperous area in Tibet.
